Remaining in God’s Presence: A Lesson From My Children

August 18, 20253 min read

Have you ever needed to be in God’s presence so much that when you finally got there you just clung on and didn’t want to leave? Have you ever walked away saying, “That’s not enough, I need more.”

Yesterday, God reminded me of this truth in the most tender way through my children.

A Precious Moment at Home

Yesterday was a full day for me. Between church service in the morning and a volunteer event in the evening, I wasn’t home much. Usually the kids come with us to these things, but with Thomas out of town ministering and us being a one car family, they had to stay home.

In between events, I came home and devoted that time to Judah and Zion, who were anxiously awaiting my arrival. We ate lunch, played games, cuddled on the couch, and told stories. They loved our time together, and so did I.

Later that night, I returned home to see them peeking through the glass at the front door, eagerly waiting for me. They almost knocked me over when I walked in, immediately asking if we could play more games. But it was late, and I had to give goodnight hugs and send them to bed.

That’s when Judah said something that pierced my heart.

“But mom, I just want to spend some more time with you. We’ve only spent four hours together today, and I just want to be with you.”

God’s Gentle Reminder

At the time, I was tired and didn’t fully see it. But the Lord gently brought Judah’s words back to my heart this morning.

Isn’t that exactly how we feel about God sometimes? We get so busy. Our schedules are full, our bodies exhausted, life gets in the way, and yet when we finally pause to be with God, we never want to leave.

His presence is home. His presence is comfort. His presence is safety. And when life pulls us away, we are left whispering, “But God, that was not enough. I want more.”

The Beautiful Truth

Here’s the truth, friend: you don’t have to leave.

God never leaves us. He doesn’t have a bedtime. He doesn’t have “other meetings.” He is with us always. His presence goes before us, walks beside us, and stands behind us.

When you need Him, He is there. Sometimes He shows up in big and bold ways. Other times, He whispers through a smile from a stranger, a bird perched on your window, or a phone call from a friend.

All you have to do is cry out, “God, I need You.” And He will meet you.

I pray this blesses you today. If it did, please consider sharing this with someone else who may need encouragement.
